Safety Valve w/ wrench – 5-1/2 20# LTC 10M
An oil field 5-1/2″ 20# LTC 10M Safety Valve (or Kelly Valve/FOSV) is a high-pressure, manually operated, ball-type valve designed to be stabbed into the drill string or connected to the top drive to prevent backflow and control well kicks. It is rated for a 10,000 PSI working pressure and comes with an operating wrench for rapid, 90-degree closing.
Specifications & Features:
- Size: 5-1/2 inch (Outer Diameter).
- Weight Class: 20# (20 lb/ft, generally indicating the casing/drill pipe weight compatibility).
- Connection: 5-1/2″ LTC (Long Thread Coupling).
- Working Pressure: 10,000 PSI (10M or 10K WP).
- Type: Full Opening Safety Valve (FOSV) / Kelly Cock.
- Operation: Manual (includes operating wrench).
- Construction: Typically one-piece for high strength, or two-piece for larger internal diameters.
- Material: Often compliant with NACE MR0175 for sour gas (H2S) service.
Applications:
- Drill Pipe Safety Valve (TIW Valve): Stabbing into the top of the drill pipe/tubing at the rig floor during a well-control incident.
- Upper/Lower Kelly Valve: Installed between the swivel and kelly (upper) or top of the drill string (lower) to control fluid flow.
- Mud Saver Valve: Used to prevent mud loss when disconnecting the kelly.
Key Benefits:
- High Pressure Rating: 10M (10,000 PSI) rating ensures safety during high-pressure, dangerous, or deep-well operations.
- Full Bore Design: Allows for the passage of tools, such as wireline tools, survey instruments, or core barrels, without restricting flow.
- Rapid Response: The provided wrench allows for quick, 90-degree manual operation.
